Design For San Diego (D4SD): UX Research
CHALLENGE
Help the team decide what topic to pursue as the challenge theme for Design For San Diego's designathon challenge.
SOLUTION
Conduct user research to deduce what problem affects San Diego the most (specifically, underserved communities), regarding health.
How I helped
-
Expansive research through reports, government archives and NGO documents.
-
UX research into current, existing solutions.
-
Analyze if there is an opportunity to improve the problem.
PROCESS
After conducting research, I realized that there was a major health challenge that most San Diego citizens faced; and that the design civic challenge had an opportunity to resolve, or reduce. Once I had figured this out, I split down health challenges into 3 separate, major concerns: drug addiction, mental illness (specifical suicide), and infectious diseases. After doing so, I began to research the current solutions proposed by San Diego's government, NGOs based here, and medical reports. Once that was completed, I summarized all my research into a report.
RECOMMENDATIONS
After the creation of the report, I gave a presentation on my research where I recommended that Design For San Diego (D4SD) uptake one, or all three of the aforementioned issues as the primary focus of their civic challenge; using the following questions as the starting point:
-
Drug Abuse: 'How can we make medical options for treatable diseases accessible to populations that are at higher risk of contracting them?'
-
Infectious Diseases: 'How can we make medical options for treatable diseases accessible to populations that are at higher risk of contracting them?'
-
Mental Illness: 'How can mental health be measured, monitored and assessed for the risk of suicide, without being invasive?'
